Happy Easter

Happy Easter from Royal!

Royal went on a home visit yesterday, but didn't get adopted. We hear he did really well, though. We praised him for being a good boy and assured him that his forever home is still out there. :-)

Just a few other neat things we've learned about Royal:

He really likes apples and will come running into the kitchen when he hears me cutting one up.

He is learning to catch treats out of the air. Stay tuned for video of this soon!

Royal's Not Afraid of Thunder Storms

Here's what he did during the thunder storm we had here earlier this evening:

I (Royal's foster mom) will be at the 100 Oaks Meet & Greet tomorrow, but unfortunately I won't be able to bring Royal with me. If anyone is interested in hearing more about this sweet boy I'm more than happy to answer questions tomorrow.

Royal's Doing Greyt

Royal has really settled in here so there's not much new to report. He likes going for walks and spending time in our back yard.

He has the cutest ears that flip and flop every which way. My favorite position is when they're both flopped forward like this:

He likes being around our resident greyhound and I think he'd make a great "chip" for anyone who is thinking about adding another hound to their pack. Just look at his sweet, smiling, happy face!

Royal's Day Out

Royal has made so much progress in the 3 weeks he's been here with us! Here's a little bit of what he's been up to:

Our house has lots of stairs, which are sometimes a bit scary to hounds who aren't used to them. When Royal first got here, he could do the carpeted indoor stairs slowly and very awkwardly, but he was too scared to try the open-backed stairs to the back yard. Now he bounds up and down all of the stairs like he's been doing it forever!

Sunday afternoon we took Royal and our resident hound LaLa out on the town. We went for a walk across the Walnut Street bridge. He saw lots of different people and dogs and did really well. He pulled on his leash for the first few minutes - probably because he was excited to see so many new and different things - but then calmed down and walked right next to me. We also went to a local doggie bakery for homemade bacon and cheese treats. He really liked those! Lastly, we took the hounds to a local restaurant where dogs are allowed on the patio. Royal was just about perfect at the restaurant. He laid down right next to our table and didn't try to steal or beg for any food. :-)

He still has some separation anxiety, but even that is improving a little each day. Below are some pictures of Royal being cute. He's such a sweet, handsome, happy boy!

Update on Royal

Royal came home with us after the Winter Gathering and he's really liking it here so far! He's a very sweet boy and a total love bug. He loves to cuddle on the couch and is happy to just hang around the house and watch everything that's going on.

I found a video of one of his old races. He's wearing the yellow number 6. Check it out here!

Now that he's retired from racing he really likes to play with his squeaky toys. Here's a video I took of him playing during his first week at our house.

Our resident hound has been teaching Royal about napping on the couch in all different
positions, which has become one of his favorite pastimes. Royal has had some separation anxiety, but that should get better with time as he adjusts to his new environment. He would probably do best in a home with another hound. He's an awesome boy!

UPDATE

Hi Folks:

I had some spare time today so I thought I would give you an update. I am really enjoying retirement here with my foster family, and am still waiting for my forever home... I like to play and roach and I lick my foster mom alot. I love to go for a walk with my foster dad. I love to eat and I like my crate when my foster parents are out. I think I would love to have brother or sister like me but for the right family I might like to get all the attention to myself.. I am taking my time because this is a big decision for me. I need to pick my forever family wisely. My foster mom said I can stay there anytime if my new family ever needs a sitter. I like hanging out with my foster brothers and sisters too! I am just a really fun active kind of guy, says my foster mom! I will check back in later to see if I have any fan mail!! Catch ya later!!!! Royal
